Winter 2010 Family Initiative Session

All are Welcome!

Please join us for this winters session of Family Initiative. We have a great line-up again of topics.:

- Classes begin January 6, 2010 and will be held each Wednesday through February 10th (6 weeks of class).
- Class time is from 6:30 – 8:00 pm, with the pot-luck dinner starting at 5:30 pm (this is optional).
- Sign-ups begin now. Please look in the kiosk for sign-up forms. Contact Jan Marrah at 765-865-6684 if you have questions.

For couples only ($17 for one book, $34 for two books)

- We will be reading the book The Temperament That God Gave Your Spouse.
- Class also includes determining what temperament you and your spouse are.
- In “The Temperament God Gave Your Spouse,” Art and Laraine Bennett provide a guide for husbands and wives who recognize how different their temperaments are, but wonder what to do about it.

- This book reveals that each person is born with one of four temperaments as our primary temperament, indicating our natural predisposition to react in certain ways. The four temperaments are the choleric, melancholic, sanguine and phlegmatic. Briefly, the choleric “is your original ‘type A’ personality: He wants to take charge and get things done.” The phlegmatic “is a peacemaker” who “hates conflict.” Phlegmatics are “steady and stabilizing.” The sanguine “is your classic ‘people person,’” while melancholics are known for introspection, noble purpose and even perfectionism.

- Are you a melancholic married to a choleric? A sanguine married to a sanguine? No matter how temperaments combine for couples, they should garner beneficial insights and recommendations from this book.

LECTIO DIVINA & GROWTH IN VIRTUE (free)

Who was the widow of Zarephath? What application does her story have in my living the virtue of prudence? How can I use the Scriptures better in my prayer life? Come to the family initiative class on lectio divina and virtues to find out the answer to these and similar questions. Chad Grube will guide participants in praying the Scriptures and applying it to their lives. Over the course of the six weeks, we will examine the theological (faith, hope, and love) and cardinal (prudence, temperance, justice, and fortitude) virtues in various accounts in the Old and New Testament. Those who attend this class will learn how to make the Scriptures a more integral part of their daily prayer lives and how to apply them to grow in their knowledge and practice of virtue. Emphasis will be given to lesser-known stories from the Old Testaments so that participants will also become more familiar with all the books of the Bible. This class is designed as a workshop; therefore, the majority of the time will be spent in prayer and delving into the Scriptures. Saint Jerome reminds us that ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ. Therefore, join us for class as we seek a more intimate and personal relationship with Our Lord whose coming we celebrate this Christmas.
