Baptism

The sacrament of Baptism is only administered to infants by prior arrangement with one of our priests. Parents must attend a preparation session scheduled usually on the second Sunday of January, April, July and October.   Adult baptism is part of the Right of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA).  RCIA is held  Wednesday evenings and Tuesday mornings.  Please call the parish office at 452-6021 for more information.

 Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life of the Spirit and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: “Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word.”

All the Old Covenant prefigurations find their fulfillment in Christ Jesus. He begins His public life after having Himself baptized by St. John the Baptist in the Jordan. After His resurrection Christ gives this mission to His apostles: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.”

Baptism helps us remember that we are part of the whole family of Christ. It begins a close personal relationship with God, but it doesn’t end there. Because of our baptism, we are called to reach out to other people in our congregation, and beyond the walls of the Church. Baptism not only draws us in toward God, it sends us out to care for God’s people around the world. In our baptism, we are called beyond ourselves.
