“Theotokos” or “God bearer”
This group is open to all girls in the fifth through eighth grades.
In addition to other Middle School Group activities for boys and girls, Theotokos activites include trips, monthly meetings and overnights.

Join us for a road trip to visit the Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration on Sunday, October 23!
We have a unique opportunity to tour the Mother House in Mishawaka, talk, play and pray with the sisters and visit with Sr. Mary Grace who made her First Profession on August 10, 2011.  Bring a few dollars for breakfast at McDonald’s and a sack lunch for our picnic with the sisters.
Mishawka trip permission forms are due October 16.
Call Kelli at 454-7179 for questions or if you can drive.

The group will meet at St. Joan of Arc for 7:30 AM Mass before traveling to Mishawaka.  Pick up will be at the St. Patrick Bethany Center at 5:00 PM.

On August 10 our girls from St. Patrick and St. Joan of Arc were invited to visit with the Poor Clare Nuns in the parlor and to pray the St. Clare Novena. Later that night the girls spent the night at the Bethany Center and watched the movie Soul Surfer.
And after just a few hours of sleep, we attended Mass on the Feast of St. Clare.

On August 10 our girls from St. Patrick and St. Joan of Arc were invited to visit with the Poor Clare Nuns in the parlor and to pray the St. Clare Novena. What a privilege it was to listen to Mother Miriam and Sr. Chiara explain the life of St. Clare.  The Nuns graciously answered questions and told the girls what it was like to be a contemplative nun at the Maria Regina Mater Monastery. Afterwards we joined the community in praying the last night of the St. Clare Novena and venerated the relic of St. Clare.

That evening the girls spent the night at the Bethany Center in order to wake up the next morning to attend Mass on the Feast Day of St. Clare. Thank you Therese Bath, Cindy McClure, Mandy Lechner, and Cathy Konapa for chaperoning. A very special thanks to our high school helpers Jessica Love, Leah Daily, Jessica Huemmer, and Arika Richey who led discussions and modeled Mary-like virtues. All girls in the 5-8th grade are welcome to attend our quarterly trips!
Born on July 16, 1194, St. Clare of Assisi was the first woman to follow St. Francis. At 18 years old, after listening to the Lenten preaching of St. Francis, she decided to follow him. St. Francis accepted her wish when she presented herself to him after running away from home. He cut her hair as a sign of her commitment to the Gospel. The first persons to follow her were her own sister and mother. Soon, her convent would be filled with other young women. She was privileged to receive visions, one of which was to witness the death of her beloved Francis who died 400 kilometers away from her convent. Her biographers described her as St. Francis’ chief rival in the imitation of the poor Christ. Once she said: “They say that we are too poor, but can a heart which possesses the infinite God be truly called poor?” St. Clare’s prayers stopped rouge soldiers from destroying Assisi, and while still alive, like St. Francis, attracted pilgrims who wanted to see a living saint. She died on August 11, 1253 and was declared patroness of all those with eye problems.

What a great time!
