The St. Vincent de Paul Society is a Catholic organization of lay persons who wish to live their faith by helping to alleviate suffering, and it promotes the dignity of all. Volunteers operate the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store at 1207 N. Armstrong Street in Kokomo. This ministry provides for the needy in Kokomo and Howard County. We have been able to provide food and clothing and also to help with rent and utilities, prescriptions and doctor bills. We take only referrals from the Trustee’s office, Salvation Army, United Way and other agencies who require proof of residence, ID for members in the family, proof of income and receipts for all expenses. These agencies maintain files and make sure the family is truly in need of help. For more information, please contact the parish office at 765-450-3143.
Ways you can help include:
Donate non-perishable food items in the baskets on Sharing Sunday - the 2nd Sunday of the month
Needed items are listed in the bulletins each week before collections but any type of nonperishable items are greatly appreciated.
Monetary donations (cans are at the entrance to churches on Sharing Sundays)
Used to purchase meat, bread, milk, margarine and other perishable items which are stored in our refrigerator/freezer at our store. Cash is also used to assist those in need with their rent, utilities and medication.
Other ways you can help are through donations to the thrift store of good used items such as clothing, shoes, purses, bedding, towels, and wash cloths, lamps, dishes, pots and pans, small appliances, games, puzzles, book, toys and knick-knacks. Items are sold at very reasonable prices and anyone can shop at our store which is open Tuesday through Thursday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. It’s like shopping at a garage sale, all year long!! Store receipts cover our store operating expenses and provide funds for those less fortunate in our community.
Help also by praying for the members of SVDP and especially pray for the people in our community who are in need.
